From a Wasteland to a New Neighbourhood

Gravel and old railway tracks alongside a birch grove

Landscape Ecology Analysis at Köpenick’s Old Freight Depot

Location: Berlin Köpenick

Size: 52 ha

Project duration: 2016 – 2019

Client: Berlin Senate Administration for Urban Development and Housing

Project type: expert assessment

The former freight depot in the Berlin district of Köpenick has long been lying idle, but there are now plans to develop this 52 hectare site. gruppe F carried out a landscape ecological survey, an important basis for urban development. First, we assessed the ecological value of the site and recorded any significant areas. The inventory of biotopes and fauna was then examined more closely. We developed proposals for preserving and handling flora and fauna, and we determined compensatory measures.
